What Kind of Protein does Myoplex use?
Myoplex is a product of the EAS line products that is a high calorie and high protein meal supplement that is comprised of vitamins and minerals. Myoplex products are based on the whey protein that is a mixture of proteins sourced from whey, a byproduct of cheese production. The whey protein is mostly used in dietary works and is used as the Myoplex protein in these products, and the protein has also been attributed to some health advantages in the alternative medicine industry.
The Myoplex protein used in the manufacture of Myoplex original or EAS Myoplex shakes is produced when milk coagulates, it contains of all soluble parts of milk that are soluble. This is a reason why the Myoplex original powder and shakes can be mixed with both water and milk. Processing the protein from the left over milk is simple as drying it off. To increase the amount o protein level in the Myoplex protein the lipids and non protein material are removed, one can use methods such as spray drying to achieve this.
The protein is mostly collected from cow’s milk and is a typical mixture of 65% lactoglubin, 25% alpha - lactalbumin, 8% serum albumin which are all soluble. They are used in Myoplex original and EAS Myoplex shakes in three major stable forms concentrates, isolates and hydrolysates. These forms are then combined with metallic elements such as potassium or calcium and then used in the composition of Myoplex products. They are used in these forms because of the advantages they have, concentrates have a low level of cholesterol and fats but tend to have a higher level of these elements compared to bioactive compounds and carbohydrates that have lactose composition in them. They contain about 30% to 90% protein in weight. Isolates o the other hand have fats and lactose removed from them thus they have protein purity of above 90%, while hydrolysates are partly exposed to digestion and hydrolysis which makes them a bit expensive as compared to the other forms, they are easily absorbed. The hydrolysates have a bitter taste when used in Myoplex products, while both the concentrates and isolates have a milky taste.
